Erja
was born and raised in Switzerland and is of Finnish and Swiss descent. She started her dance education at seven.
Her
first lessons were from the City Theater in St.Gallen, Switzerland.
She holds a BFA in Dance &Theater-Management from
URI and diplomas in Massage Therapy and Modeling.
In 1968, she debuted with the City Theater Company in "A
Night In Venice". Staying with the company until 1974, she performed in numerous Theater and Ballet productions.
In 1974, Erja received a scholarship for the Sibelius Academia in Helsinki, moving to Finland where she studied Modern and
Jazz dance, Mime, Drama and Voice.
In 1976 Erja returned to Switzerland continuing her education at the Colombo Dance
Factory in Zurich, in Paris with Matt Mattox and the University of Zurich ETH.
During this period she founded her first
dance company, "The Zurich Dance Connection"(1982-1985).
At the same time Erja continued to teach dance, fitness and prophylactic back care
at the ETH Zurich (Technical University Zurich) ASVZ
In 1985 Erja moved to the U.S. becoming a dance consultant and
assistant coach for the Gymnastic team at the University of Rhode Island (U.R.I.).
She also started the dance and movement program at River Bend Health Club in Peace
Dale, R.I.
In 1990 she founded her second dance troupe "The DanceArt Company".
Between 1991 and 2002,
Erja owned and managed the DanceArt Forum Inc., a dance school, located in Narragansett, R.I.
She continued to work as a freelance teacher and producer
in both the New England area and her native Switzerland until 1996 when she opened the second DanceArt Forum in the Hamilton
section of Wickford, R.I.
In 2003 the third DanceArt Forum opened, this time in Bern and 2007 in St.Gallen Switzerland.
Erja never stops educating herself. She regularly travels to study with master teachers from around the world to broaden
her knowledge in dance, massage and workplace ergonomic.
Erja continues her quest to educate people of all ages in dance
and workplace ergonomic.
She leads
courses in Jazz dance, Ballet, and Stretching for adults and Pre-ballet and Jazz-Ballet for children and teens.
Since 2008 she works as a Producer and
Director with a Senior Theater company in Switzerland.
Whenever she teaches, she provides a safe and warm place
where people can find joy in dance and work.
